Eva's story
Eva's half-sister today says two things about Eva as a child: firstly, she was obsessed with colours, painting and nature. Secondly, she had an extreme sense of justice and was prepared to fight for it.
Eva's childhood is overshadowed by the sexual abuse she experiences through her father and a family friend. Over the years, she loses access to colours and stops painting.
After graduating from high school, she studies economics and follows her father's footsteps professionally, building a career at an American IT giant. But her past catches up and in the midst of her life she decides that she has to face it. A bitter search and struggle begins as she moves forward to overcome the trauma she has experienced, to heal and to reinvent herself. On this path, Eva finds her way back to her beloved colours and ultimately to art as a powerful vehicle for transformation.
Over the years, Eva experiments with various forms of therapy - both conventional and alternative. Her realisation crystallises more and more clearly: everything that works on the body is effective and heals. She begins to create art together with other survivors and to explore these body-oriented therapy methods with them.
Today she works as an artist and social entrepreneur, running Body Voices as an NGO based in Germany, with the help of volunteers and in cooperation with women’s organisations in Germany and abroad. The work of Body Voices with the survivors of sexual violence is the silent side of her work. The artwork she creates is the loud side, giving a voice to the ones who still struggle to find their own ones.
