No. 17 – Eva Michielin at a Doctors' Informational Evening: Prevention as Part of Our Work

At Body Voices, we accompany survivors of sexual violence on their path to healing. And we are deeply convinced that healing alone is not enough, it is just as important to prevent wounds from forming in the first place. That is exactly what Eva Michielin recently stood up for.
At the invitation of Manu Lieb from Wirbelwind Reutlingen e.V., a counselling centre for sexualised violence in childhood and adolescence in Reutlingen, Eva took part in an info evening for doctors. At the heart of the evening was this question: What can doctors notice when children and young people experience abuse in their everyday lives — at home, at school, in clubs or in church? Professionals who work with children and young people every day can play a decisive role, when they are sensitised to recognise the signs and empowered to act supportively.
Eva spoke about herself as a child, about her personal story and the signs that a doctor could have noticed back then. Prevention is essential and it needs voices like Eva's. Building this bridge between personal experience and professional action brings change and protects children and young people in the moments that matter most.
